About Jared

Jared was raised in Raleigh, NC, inside District - C. He was educated in Wake County Public Schools, attending Emma Conn Magnet Elementary, Carnage Middle, and Broughton High schools. Both of Jared’s parents, Mr. Samuel and the late Mrs. Rosalyn Ollison worked for Wake County Public Schools, Mr. Ollison as an administrator prior to launching the family business, and Mrs. Ollison retired from the Student Assignments Administrative Office. His parents taught him the value of education, community involvement, and the importance of being a productive citizen. Many of these lessons were fostered inside District - C at Martin Street Baptist Church where Jared’s family has attended for ninety years, and Jared is a lifelong member. Jared resides in District - C on Lyndhurst Drive.

After High School, Jared joined the United States Air Force where he excelled in his performance reviews being recognized for several accomplishments. Jared was also recognized by the Air Force for risking his own life to save a child’s life by placing himself in front a car traveling at a high rate of speed and being struck by the car after pushing the child off of the road while serving at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea in 1997. Jared also served in the Middle East in Saudi Arabia and the United Arabic Emirates in 1998. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1999, Jared returned home to Raleigh, NC where he joined the Wake County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy.

Jared’s stellar career in law enforcement speaks for itself. He has served in several capacities in over the last twenty plus years. Jared has supervised law enforcement operations on college campuses, lead the largest division at the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, and has helped facilitate the intake of various mental health patients as a part-time police officer at Wake Medical Health and Hospitals.

As the former Director of Detention Services at the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, Jared served on the sheriff’s senior staff, was a member of the Wake County Criminal Justice Operation’s Committee, the Wake County Court Space Committee, Wake County Mental Health Committee, Wake County Learning Site Committee, and the Wake County Covid-19 Emergency Response Committee. Jared was always professional, budget conscious, and operated with compassion and concern for all citizens. Jared understands public safety and complex issues.

Jared followed his grandparents, the late Dr. Lt Col, USAF, (Ret) Burrus and the late Mrs. Virginia Swayze’s, footsteps by attending college in District - C at Shaw University where he received a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a focus in criminal justice. Jared also obtained a master’s degree in public policy and public administration from Liberty University. Importantly, Jared is a proud uncle and dedicated single father, Jared raised his children, John and Virginia, to be bright and productive members of society. John and Virginia both currently attend Shaw University where they will be the eleventh and twelfth members of Jared’s family to graduate Shaw.

Jared enjoys spending time with his family, long walks, bike riding, camping, and reading,
